Lord of Grenlock~ a great warrior disappears and it takes another favored man of a dying king to bring him safely home.
And so it begins~ Three families, strong friendships, bonds forged, oaths struck and broken on bloody battlefields for their liege lord and their own lives will touch these families in ways they never imagined. Their women: betrayal, lust, and undying, almost obsessive passions during treacherous times. Will it be enough to heal these hardened warriors’ hearts? We shall see…more to come. Hope you stay along for what I hope is a magnificent and breathtaking medieval ride as this new series unfolds
*Wulgren abed and fevered sees my heroine again
~The awful song, a shrieking it was more akin to, wormed its way into Wulgren’s skull. What foul beast was torturing them with a tune not even the dead would want to wake to? No worse than a horrendous rendition of a death march.
He thought to blink open his eyes to get a look see at the cursed being but his heavy lids refused to cooperate. Instead, he worked his dry tongue and praised the Gods when his lips parted. Good. He would deliver a swift scathing instead to the owner of the horrid tune. ʼTwould work just the same. “Cease the wailing of pigs,” he rasped.
What Liddy heard was his garbled foreign tongue. She rushed to the bed to gaze down at him. More words poured from his mouth. “Hold, my lord. Be still,” she cautioned.
Though she had kept his lips moistened with her healing balm, the deep cuts from lack of sustenance and the raging fever had cracked his lips. One stubborn cut had reopened when he had spoken. Liddy dipped her finger into the nearby jar of balm she kept on the table next to the bed and with her finger; she smeared a generous amount across the torn skin of his mouth.
She used her left hand to hold him down across his chest for what she knew would occur next. The large man in her bed grit his teeth and arched his back against the sting of the ointment. She got a clear word this time.
He tried to lick it off. “Nay!” Liddy chased the tip of his tongue with her fingers. It was easy for her to grab it between forefinger and thumb due to his weakened state. He went still immediately beneath her.
Liddy whispered, “I know it stings, but it’s the mint within that heals your lips.” She released her hold on him when she realized what she had done. He still did not move, made no sound nor did he attempt to lick his lips again. Liddy looked up and lost her breath so startled was she by the piercing grey-black sharp eyes that were locked on hers.
“Oh!” stumbled out of her mouth.
Wulgren could only stare at the vision before him. It was the angel he’d seen in his dreams. Her soft fingers had held gently to his tongue and had brushed ever so softly against his parched lips when she’d withdrawn them. Whilst she’d reprimanded him, warned him never to lick his lips again his heavy lids had decided in that moment to work with him instead of against him.
Never had he expected to see her. Again. So blinded, struck by the surprise at seeing her; the excitement that raced through his blood left him speechless. Her wide eyes narrowed, nay, filled with concern as she dragged something heavy and warm over his chest to his neck, then his forehead. Her arm, he saw as she pulled it away. Chestnut hair, shiny and streaked with gold, lay tucked behind one tiny ear and the rest, loose, frizzed and framed her lovely face. She looked tired and he wanted to soothe her ache. The words left his mouth before he realized he was speaking them. “Lay your head upon my chest and rest, angel. I will protect you from whatever has run your beautiful being into the ground.”
